Workshop Description:
We're really excited to offer this workshop. We love traditional pretty cakes, however to be able to make a cake with absolute wow power that will rock the recipiants socks off, takes real talent. Can you imagine presenting this as a surprise cake? For Halloween or just for a special occasion to create a reaction, any time of the year. We absolutely love this one day workshop!
We know when you look at this incredible creation your first reaction will be "I can't do that". Well believe us when we say "YES YOU CAN"! This class is broken down step by step, every step is easy to follow even for those with very little experience. Step outside of your comfort zone, you'll surprise yourself by what you can achieve with a little knowledge. You'll learn all the skills necessary to take your creations to the next level, with a little practice when you get home you'll perfect them.
Truth be known there are so many techniques and skills packed into this class. The great news is that they are all transferrable. What do we mean by that? Well once you've completed this class you will be able to sculpt a huge variety of high impact realism character cakes that don't require difficult internal structures. If you're wanting to learn realism cake sculpting this is the perfect place to start.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of Australia's most awarded cake sculptors. Sarah will be sharing all the tips and skills she has learned over many years, that have made her work stand out above the crowd, not only within Australia but globally.
It's hard to believe that you can create such realism from a basic chocolate cake. Sarah will teach you how to carve your cake, how to position it, so that your decapitated head is elevated. Then the magic starts. You'll learn how to sculpt different facial features. You'll be taking your Old Hag on a journey, she'll start with a fresh face, then Sarah will teach you how to apply aged effects and unique features like wrinkles, frowns and even how to create warts. Time permitting Sarah will teach your or demonstrate several other effects, like hand painting illusion effects such as spiders, realistic hands etc. However this will be very dependant on how quick you work. Sarah's so excited she wants to teach you as much as possible. This workshop is great value. It comes highly recommended.

- About how to create realistic features and about the importance of proportion
- How to sculpt chocolate mud cake to create a decapitated head
- How to apply ganache to a sculpted cake
- How to sculpt realistic facial features
- How to take sculpt to achieve different age effects (young to old)
- How to paint an illusion spider on your presentation board
- Learn how to use an airbrush, and what to do if an airbrush isn't available.
- Learn how to model realistic fingers
- How to hand paint patterns or designs to achieve a material effect
- Time permitting how to create spooky features like blood

About Your Teacher:
Sarah was born in London and trained in illustration. It was while working at a children’s art centre that she first became interested in cake sculpting, after seeing (and tasting) the children’s cakes at birthday parties held there.
Sarah met her Australian husband Chris in London and they relocated to Melbourne where she set up Creative Cake Art a few years later.
Over the years, Sarah has become an award winning cake decorator and created hundreds of cakes for weddings, birthdays, special occasions and many corporate events. Given her natural artistic ability she's often invited to make highly specialised cakes for celebrities, company launches and TV shows. Sarah is one of those decorators who can easily apply her skills to any style of cake, however where her work stands out above the rest, is in the area of realism cakes. She would undoubtedly have to be one of the top Australian decorators specialising in this field.
She was recently awarded Australasian Cake Sculptor of the Year by the Australian Cake Artists & Decorators Association.
Her cakes have won awards at many prestigious events such as the Royal Melbourne show, The Cake Bake and Sweet Show and International Cake Show Australia.
She has a passion for recreating objects as cakes and has a passion for figurative work. She enjoys sculpting busts and also making personalised cake figurines and cake toppers. Her love of painting is portrayed in her hand painted cakes.

WORKSHOP FAQ
Limited Student Numbers & Class Timing:
Every workshop has limited numbers to ensure the very best tuition possible. The times given are guidelines. We understand all students work at different speeds, however in a workshop situation it's important you try to keep up. If you do, you'll go home with a finished project. If not, you will have learned the required skills and have some homework to complete. We cannot guarantee all classes will finish on time.
What You'll Take Home:
At the end of your workshop we'll provide you with a box to safely transport your project home. Be super proud, we'd love to be there to see the expression on your friends' and family's faces. What you'll be making in this workshop is guaranteed to "WOW"!
Workshop Ticket Inclusions:
Your workshop ticket includes a 3 day International Cake Show Australia pass valued at $75.
You DO NOT need to buy a separate show entry ticket. Your workshop ticket gives you access to all areas of the show other than the paid areas such as workshops, mini classes, paid demonstration area and VIP lounge. These are separate ticketed items.
Your workshop ticket includes express show entry, access to all stages, more than 100 free demonstrations, all the huge sugar features including the new walk through House of Horror, competition display, cookie zone, bridal zone, sweet street, to all the shops and lots more. It gives you show access for all three days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday).
Everything you need to complete your class is provided. All tools and equipment provided are for use during your workshop only. These can't be taken home. They need to be left at the end of your workshop, as they are needed for the following classes. If you wish to purchase any of the tools or equipment used, they will be available at various vendor stands at the show. Many of the vendors will be selling at highly discounted prices, so you'll be able to pick up lots of bargains. Your teacher will explain what you need and how you can improvise where possible, however they'll also tell you the best places to source any items you may need to purchase, if you want to recreate your project again at home.
Tea, coffee and cake (of course) is provided.
What You Need to Bring:
You need to bring an apron, a bottle of water if needed, a light lunch and a smile. Every workshop is packed full of invaluable skills, techniques and tips you'll use for many years to come, they're also lots of fun. Why not consider inviting your bestie to come share in your funfilled learning experience.
Is there a payment plan available?
Yes. You have the choice of paying in full at the time of your booking, or alternately we can organise an interest free payment plan for you. We understand many of our students want to book multiple classes and it can be expensive to pay for them all at once. If you wish to pay via a payment plan, when checking out please select the "Invoice" option. We will then contact you to discuss suitable payment instalments, then invoice you. A 25% deposit is required to secure your booking. The remainder you can pay in monthly instalments. Please note full payment must be paid no later than one month before your first workshop.
What if I book a class then see something else I prefer, can I transfer?
Yes of course you can, providing there are places available and your new class is of a similar value. If not you'll need to pay the difference. You are able to swap classes up until 14 days prior to the show.
What if I can't make it, am I able to get a refund?
In the event there aren't sufficient student numbers to make the class economically viable, or the teacher is unable to make it due to being unwell we will provide you with as much notice as possible and provide you with the choice of an immediate 100% refund or option to transfer into another workshop, the choice is yours! In the event you aren't able to make it you are welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else. We begin preparations for the workshops months before the show, therefore refunds unfortuantely aren't available. If you need to transfer your ticket to someone else, please ensure you contact us to let us know, so we can welcome them.
