No prior cake decorating experience is required for this class. You will be working with cake and will be taught all the basics step by step. This workshop is perfect if you're starting your cake decorating journing or still strugging with perfecting beautiful crisp straight edges, as well as for experienced decorators wanting to perfect their buttercream piping skills.  There's a huge market for what you'll learn in this class, yet once you learn the skills they are quick and easy to make!

Workshop Description:
​
Can you imagine delivering a super pretty piped buttercream cake to your mother on Mother's Day, or to a special friend or work mate?

here's no other cake that reflects so much elegence and charm. Yet once you've learned the basic skills Phi will teach you, it's quick, easy and quite inexpensive to create. This is the perfect class for the beginner or a home baker who wants to impress, but is time poor. 

This cake is perfect for an absolute beginner or those who are wanting to perfect the foundations of cake decorating. It's a fun filled class that teaches you all the basics such as how to perfectly layer, fill and coat your naked cake.... and how to perfect those beautiful crisp straight edges. Once you've mastered these skills, then it's time to get creative. Phi will teach you how to pipe buttercream like a master. As you complete each layer of beautiful piped buttercream, you'll see the magic come to life. At the end of this workshop you'll go home with your very own Vintage Buttercream Cake, and the confidence and skills that you'll use for the rest of your life.

This one day workshop is suitable for all experience levels, even if you're a beginner with absolutely no prior cake decorating experience. If you are an experienced decorator this is an opportunity to learn new skills such as how to pipe buttercream using a various techniques and piping tips 


Techniques and Skills You Will Learn: 

  • The foundations of cake decorating. You'll start from scratch and will be working with a beautiful  baked naked cake
  • How to cut layers evenly and fill them with buttercream
  • How to assemble and coat a single-tier cake using Phi's signature technique for achieving crisp straight edges. 
  • How to get the colour right - match and mix colours! 
  • How to add different colour combinations to your cake
  • You will practice and learn vintage piping using various piping nozzles (tips)
  • Explore possibilities to add extra elements to create a fun buttercream cake
  • How to box, transport and store your cake

What You'll Take Home: 

  • 1 x beautifully piped buttercream vintage cake, in a cake box
  • ​The skills and knowledge that will take your cakes to the next level and last the rest of our life. 

​Prerequisite:  This class is suitable for all experience levels, including beginners with no prior experience. There are no prerequisites for this class.

About Your Teacher:

Phi is renown for her exquisite buttercream piping skills. Regardless of whether it's perfectly piped realistic buttercream flowers, vintage buttercream cakes or palette knife buttercream art, she's one of Australia's most talented teachers within her field. 

Phi has taught and demonstrated at International Cake Show Australia previously. Her classes are always quick to fill. Her teaching style is patient and attentive, however she doesn't take short cuts, the quality of the work she will teach you is world class. 

Phi owns one of the busiest bakeries in Lake Macquarie (NSW) and teaches her much in demand butercream workshops throughout Australia and South East Asia. 

This workshop is highly recommended for anyone starting their cake decorating journing or wanting to improve their buttercream piping skills. 

WORKSHOP FAQ

Limited Student Numbers & Class Timing:

This workshop has limited student numbers to ensure the very best tuition possible. The times given are guidelines. We understand all students work at different speeds, however in a workshop situation it's important you try to keep up. If you do, you'll go home with a finished project. If not, you will have learned the required skills and have some homework to complete. As with all workshops class times are approximate. We cannot guarantee all classes will finish on time.

What You'll Take Home:

At the end of your workshop we'll provide you with a box to safely transport your project home. Be super proud, we'd love to be there to see the expression on your friends' and family's faces. What you'll be making in this workshop is guaranteed to "WOW"!  

​Workshop Ticket Inclusions: 

Your workshop ticket includes a 3 day International Cake Show Australia pass valued at $75.
You DO NOT need to buy a separate show entry ticket.  Your workshop ticket gives you access to all areas of the show other than the paid areas such as workshops, mini classes, paid demonstration area and VIP lounge. These are separate ticketed items.

Your workshop ticket includes express show entry, access to all stages, more than 100 free demonstrations, all the huge sugar features including the new walk through House of Horror,  competition display, cookie zone, bridal zone, sweet street, to all the shops and lots more. It gives you show access for all three days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). 

Everything you need to complete your class is provided. All tools and equipment provided are for use during your workshop only. These can't be taken home. They need to be left at the end of your workshop, as they are needed for the following classes. If you wish to purchase any of the tools or equipment used, they will be available at various vendor stands at the show. Many of the vendors will be selling at highly discounted prices, so you'll be able to pick up lots of bargains. Your teacher will explain what you need and how you can improvise where possible, however they'll also tell you the best places to source any items you may need to purchase, if you want to recreate your project again at home.

Tea, coffee and cake (of course) is provided. 

What You Need to Bring: 

You need to bring an apron, a bottle of water if needed, a light lunch and a smile. Every workshop is packed full of invaluable skills, techniques and tips you'll use for many years to come, they're also lots of fun. Why not consider inviting your bestie to come share in your funfilled learning experience. 

What if I book a class then see something else I prefer, can I transfer? 

Yes of course you can, providing there are places available and your new class is of a similar value. If not you'll need to pay the difference. You are able to swap classes up until 14 days prior to the show. 

What if I can't make it, or the class is cancelled, will I get a refund?

In the event there aren't sufficient student numbers to make the class economically viable, or the teacher is unable to make it due to being unwell we will provide you with as much notice as possible and provide you with the choice of an immediate 100% refund or option to transfer into another workshop, the choice is yours! In the event you aren't able to make it you are welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else. We begin preparations for the workshops months before the show, therefore refunds unfortuantely aren't available. If you need to transfer your ticket to someone else, please ensure you contact us to let us know, so we can welcome them. ​
