Workshop Description:

Have you always wanted to learn how to paint like an artist on cakes and cookies? Or being able to paint personalised images? In this workshop New Zealand Artist and ACADA member Tracey van Lent will be teaching you all about the art of painting with cocoa butter. It's a fabulous technique that's rapidly becoming the preferred paint medium of cake and cookie artists worldwide. It's incredibly versitile and can be applied to cookies, royal icing, ganache and even buttercream. With the basic know how's under your belt, the great news is a little cocoa butter goes a long way, making it reasonably economical, however the best news is that it's quicker and easier to use.

Perfecting the art of painting with cocoa butter will elevate your decorating to the next level. At the end of this workshop you will have gained the skills to transfer any design onto your work and paint it like a seasoned professional.... even if you've never picked up a paintbrush before.

Your Project:

This is a step by step project. To ensure maximum learning experience in this workshop you will be painting Tracey's design pictured above. You'll master how to paint a cute little girl with a flower crown and sweet red robin

Benefits of Learning How to Paint with Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter painting offers so many benefits compared to traditional edible paints. It's not adversely affected by moisture. So if you live in a high humidity climate it's easy to work with, whereas water-based painted cakes can at times be a real issue. Another beauty about painting with cocoa butter is that it can easily be layered. One layer can e applied on top of another to build up texture and depth

Painting light colours over dark is almost impossible with water-based edible paints. However, it's a breeze when you paint with cocoa butter.

Techniques and Skills You Will Learn:

  • The materials you will need (you'll be surprised how few)
  • Where to search for, and choose the perfect design
  • How to sketch out your design
  • What cake decorating medium to use as your canvas
  • How to transfer your design to your project
  • How to prepare your solid cocoa butter to transform it into the perfect painting medium
  • How to mix cocoa butter with dust colours
  • How to paint and layer cocoa butter
  • How to add shaddowing and depth
  • Tracey will share lots of little tips and tricks artists use.

Prerequisite:  This workshop is suitable for everyone, even those who have never picked up a paintbrush.

What you Will Take Home: At the end of your workshop you'll take your beautifully painted little girl home in a box to impress your family and friends. More importantly you'll leave with the skills that will enable you to paint personalised or beautiful projects of the design of your choice.

This workshop has limited student numbers to ensure the very best tuition possible. The times given are guidelines. We understand all students work at different speeds, however in a workshop situation it's important you try to keep up. If you do, you'll go home with a finished project. If not, you will have learned the required skills and have some homework to complete. As with all workshops class times are approximate. We cannot guarantee all classes will finish on time.

What You'll Take Home:

At the end of your workshop we'll provide you with a box to safely transport your project home. Be super proud, we'd love to be there to see the expression on your friends' and family's faces. What you'll be making in this workshop is guaranteed to "WOW"!

What if I book a class then see something else I prefer, can I transfer?

Yes of course you can, providing there are places available and your new class is of a similar value. If not you'll need to pay the difference. You are able to swap classes up until 14 days prior to the show.

What if I can't make it, or the class is cancelled, will I get a refund?

In the event there aren't sufficient student numbers to make the class economically viable, or the teacher is unable to make it due to being unwell we will provide you with as much notice as possible and provide you with the choice of an immediate 100% refund or option to transfer into another workshop, the choice is yours! In the event you aren't able to make it you are welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else. We begin preparations for the workshops months before the show, therefore refunds unfortuantely aren't available. If you need to transfer your ticket to someone else, please ensure you contact us to let us know, so we can welcome them.
