Workshop Description:

In this workshop you will learn how to perfect the craft of using modeling chocolate to create a photo realistic face and bust.  Modeling chocolate is the secret behind many of the insane cakes you see, and instantly think how is that possible?

When you look at the photos of "Wendy" above, you may think to yourself, I will never be able to achieve that. Don't doubt ourself! The good news is modeling chocolate is very forgiving and relatively easy to use. Far easier to use than fondant! Once you have completed Marta's two day workshop your skills (and confidence) will be lifted to an entirely new level.

This is not a beginners class. You don't need any modeling chocolate skills, however you do need to have basic cake decorating skills. This class doesn't include layering, stacking or ganaching cakes. It's assumed you already have those skills.  In order to complete this workshop and cover the huge number of new skills and techniques Marta will teach you, you'll be working using a polystyrene dummy structure for the base of "Wendy's" face.

You will be guided during the whole class to understand how to build the human face, considering the face anatomy and proportions. You will learn how to paint the bust so it looks likereal skin using cocoa butter as a medium.   Marta will provide information about how to make your own modeling chocolate and how to dye it using easy to find materials. You will learn how to make Rice Krispy Treats and how to apply them to build strong shapes. You will finish by adding hair and Wendy's clothes by using a special mixture of modeling chocolate and fondant that is very useful not only for the bust, but also for all kind of cake decorating projects.

Techniques and Skills You Will Learn:
  • Marta will explain how to build stable internal support systems for bust cakes
  • How to use a polystyrene dummy for the base of your face
  • How to make Rice Krispy Treats (RKTs) and how to shape and apply them
  • How to make and use modelling chocolate for various applications
  • You'll learn about the human face anatomy and proportions
  • How to perfect creating realistic face features such as eyes, eye brows, nose, ears, freckles etc
  • How to create realistic looking hair and clothes
  • How to apply colour and those finishing touches that will bring your "Wendy" to life

Prerequisite:  This class is not suitable for beginners. It's designed for those at intermediate and above level. You will be taught step by step, however it's important you've mastered the basics of cake decorating and are experienced with the use of fondant.
