Is it a requirement to have a food handler's licence in order to apply for ACADA members' insurance?

A food handling licence is a legal requirement for any individual or business making and selling food within Australia, therefore we strongly recommend you have one. However we understand you will have lots of balls to line up when setting up your business and may not want to put the horse before the cart!

How much am I covered for?

The insurance coverage is the same for all bands. The insured amount is $20,000,000 any one claim for Public Liability and $20,000,000 any one claim & in the aggregate for Products Liability.

What level should I choose?

Option 1 - Band 1
Covers Home-based Bakers, Cake & Cookie Decorators and Sweet Makers earning a gross income of $20,000 or less per year. This is the most popular choice for most small, part time bakers, decorators or sweet makers who operate a home based business.
Cost: $60 Inc. GST, Stamp Duty & Admin Fees

Option 2 - Band 2
Covers Home-based Bakers, Cake & Cookie Decorators and Sweet Makers earning a gross income of between $20,001 - $50,000 per year.
Cost: $150 Inclusive GST, Stamp Duty & Admin Fees

Option 3 - Band
 3
Covers Home or studio based Bakers, Cake & Cookie Decorators and Sweet Makers working part or full time earning a gross income of between $50,001 - $100,000.
Cost $190 Inclusive GST, Stamp Duty & Admin Fees

Why does band 2 & 3 cost more?

We have negotiated the lowest possible premiums for our members across all income levels, while trying to maximise benefits and reduce your risk exposure.  Band 2 and 3 retrospectively sell a higher volume of products, therefore their insurance needs are greater, as is the risk to the insurer.

Why is the cost so much lower than charged elsewhere?

We have negotiated a group discount for ACADA members, further discounted because we are a not-for-profit industry based association. We do not benefit from providing our members with insurance. It's one of the many services and benefits we offer all of our members.

Interesting fact: It's illegal for any 3rd party insurer such as a decorating association or network, to make a profit from selling insurance to you.

Eligibility

You must be a current financial Australian Cake Artists & Decorators' Association (ACADA) member. Membership starts at $91.50 inc. GST.  If you aren't currently a member please click the link below to join.

Must be an individual (sole trader) or in a partnership  operating a home based business.  That means if you employ staff or you operate as an incorporated entity (company) you are not eligible for this policy.

If you are incorporated (or have a registered company, rather than a business) or your activities are not covered above, please contact ACADA's Insurance Broker Coverforce 3LP Pty Ltd  for an alternate quote. They'd be happy to assist you!

Important Things to Know

What Activities ARE NOT covered?
  • Any cooking classes involving use of ovens, gas burners or the like
  • Any classes involving the teaching of minors (anyone under 18)
  • Any sales from shops or wholesaling to shops, cafe's or restaurants
  • The hiring of halls or commercial premises to conduct classes.

What is the insured period?
Your insurance coverage commences as soon as Coverforce 3LP Pty Ltd Brokers provide you with your certificate of currency. Please note all ACADA members insurance policies fall due for renewal on 6th March every year, regardless of your joining date.  You can cancel your insurance at any time prior to the renewal date through the Customer Portal or by emailing: [email protected]

Is this a Master Policy and what does that mean?
This is a Master Policy, which means your insurance will fall under the umbrella of Australian Cake Artists & Decorator's Master Policy. Please be aware master policies can be different. Please be aware similar liability insurance coverage being offered elsewhere within the industry do not offer Products coverage for any one claim and those insured share an aggregate limit, rather than having individual full coverage. Please be wary about this as it means the coverage may be less than you expect. Product coverage with all ACADA insurance policies includes full individual coverage.
IT IS NOT SHARED with other members or include an aggregate limit. You reap the full benefit.

Be aware of insurance clauses that are not to your benefit!
The liability indemnity limit in your ACADA member's policy is designed to benefit every policy holder equally, coverage isn't shared.  Your policy limits appy to any one claim made by you (not all members). Although ACADA is the policy holder, every member is individually insured with individual indemnity limits of $20,000,000 for every claim for Public Liability and $20,000,000 every claim in the aggregate for Product Liability. Another important difference is that your ACADA insurance certificate of currency will be issued in your name.

What is Public Liability Insurance?
Public liability protects you if you are found liable for losses or damage suffered by a third party as a result of negligence, subject to the policy terms and conditions. This can include death or injury, loss or damage to property.

What is Product liability Insurance?
If you provide goods and services to your customers it is important to have protection against claims for damage, injury or death caused by products or services sold or supplied through your business, subject to the policy terms and conditions.  This covers you for goods you make, sell or deliver.

When will my coverage commence?
As soon as you are issued with your certificate of currency from Coverforce 3LP Pty Ltd Brokers. You will be emailed your certificate of currency direct from Coverforce 3LP Pty Ltd Brokers within 7 Days of submitting your application. If you require it urgently please contact ACADA's secretary Mary Pisani via email through this link.

Is there an excess applicable when making a claim?
Yes there is an excess payment applicable when making a claim. It's $1000 each and every claim.

Need insurance advice?
Please note ACADA are the master policyholder only. Legally ACADA cannot provide any advice or recommendations as to members in relation to their individual insurance needs. Most queries can be answered from viewing the information above, or the Fact Sheet provided by Coverforce 3LP Pty Ltd Brokers.
